The research group "Electronic Design” within the Siemens’ central R&D department "Technology” is a pivotal part of the global technology field "Integrated Circuits (ICs) & Electronics” which is responsible for powerful, sustainable, and cost-efficient industrial electronics are the solid core of many systems’ capabilities and performance.
The team is specifically focused on industrial research on architectures and design processes for secure and safe power-efficient real-time heterogeneous compute platforms for industrial edge computing applications ranging from integrated devices (e.g. SoC/ASIC/FPGA) to discrete electronics PCB-level platforms. Machine learning and artificial intelligence is not only addressed as a workload for the electronics platforms, but also leveraged in the design process for the electronics platforms.
Role and Key Contribution
- Design, implementation and verification of discrete (PCB) and integrated (SoC/ASIC/FPGA) electronics
- Innovative electronics-based solutions for industrial edge computing and node applications, such as electric drive and motion control, industrial automation, smart grids and medical applications
- Safe, secure and energy efficient electronics
- Electronics for AI/ML workloads and AI/ML for electronics design and implementation
